Glittery deer painting

SUPPLIES:

- First go ahead and print out THIS deer head template onto cardstock (scroll down two photos)

- Canvas (mine was 12″x 16″)

- Gold glitter

- Small bottle of black gloss acrylic paint

- Large and small paint brush

- Pencil

- Yardstick

- Liquid gold marker/pen **I’m convinced this made all the difference

- Blue painters tape

- Elmer’s glue

- Clear enamel spray or hair spray

Step 1:  I printed out the deer head then enlarged it by 20% on my printer/copier onto two sheets of cardstock.  Taped them together and cut out the silhouette (you can leave it an on an 8×10 if you want I just wanted mine a little larger)

Step 2: I marked off 2″ wide stripes on the canvas with a pencil and the yardstick (just divide evenly based on the size of your canvas)

Step 3:  Use blue painter’s tape to mask off the stripes you don’t want paint on.  Wrap the tape around the sides to the back so you can paint the edges too.  Once the blue tape is on, paint the black gloss paint on the alternating stripes.  Allow to dry.  Then remove the painter’s tape.

Step 4: Place the deer head cutout on top of the canvas and trace with a pencil.

Step 5: Once you have traced the whole template, remove and go over the pencil with the liquid gold marker.  This is a huge step a lot of the tutorials skipped, but I think it’s so important.  It’s hard to get clean edges with the glue so the gold marker will give you a perfect outline.

Step 6:  Use a combination of your large and small paint brush to fill in the outline generously with white glue.  The thicker you put the glue the more dimensional it looks.  Try to stay slightly within the gold outline so the edges stay crisp.

Step 7:  Dump on the glitter and let it set for about a minute.  When done shake off into a paper grocery bag (so you can pour the excess back into the container).  If there are any spotty areas you can touch them up with glue and glitter.  I also used a dry paintbrush and brushed away any glitter that fell outside the lines.  When done give a light coat of enamel spray or hairspray to keep the glitter in place.

I found this at http://badsentinel.com/2013/12/03/simple-ideas-that-are-borderline-genius-35-photos-5/genius-ideas-17-3/#main

I would imagine this could be pretty easy to make. All you need to do is cut out a template. Turn it inside out sew the edges and turn right side out and stuff then stitch the opening. I may try this!

Cocoa gift

If you are new to homemade, DIY gift giving then today’s simple Christmas gift might be just what you need for the inspiration to try it out. These adorable Hot Cocoa Kits are easy to make, require very little crafting skill and could be made with the kids for all their teachers

Paper tree

What you need:

Two paper mache tree shapes. The ones I used were 16 and 22 inches tall. I got them at Hobby Lobby and I have seen them at Michaels too! If you can't find them, you could also use Styrofoam cone shapes as well!Crate Paper - "Snow Day" collection (two of each for both trees): Melt, Sparkle, Blizzard, Festive, Mittens, Flakes, CandyHot glue gun and 2 large glue sticksGreen acrylic paint and foam brush (I used Plaid - Folk Art- in #503 "Yellow Cintron"

Lets Get Started!

Start by either cutting the petal shape using the Sizzix - "Flowers, Beauty Bloom" die (foundHERE) or if you have SCAL and a Cricut you can use this .svg file found HERE (1 sheet for the larger petals) and HERE (1 sheet for the medium and smaller petals). You will need 96 large, 98 medium and 16 small petals. If you don't have SCAL you can print and trace these shapes on to your papers and cut them out too!

Just a note: If you use the Sizzix die, your petals will be all the same size and that's totally ok! That's how I did it for the CHA trees!

Paint the bottom of your tree shapes with the green paint! I used a foam brush and two coats and they came out nice and opaque!

You will want to split the pile of "Mittens" and "Candy" papers into two groups as you will be using both sides of these papers!

Wrap each shape around a round pen or sharpie marker to curl the edges! You can do this as you are gluing each piece (no need to curl them all at once)!
The curled petal should look something like this!
Dab a spot of hot glue on the pointy ends of each petal and....

..starting from the bottom, adhere them to the base of your cone shape!
Start layering each petal shape around the base and then work your way up the tree shape one row at a time!
Just keep in truckin'..curling and gluing!
..If things get a little slanted, that's ok! It just adds to the charm of the tree!
Almost there!!!
I ran out of daylight before I finished the pics for this tutorial but I figured you have the basic idea down on how this is done!
When you get to the tip of the tree, wrap a little piece of felt or fabric and glue it to the top and snip it off! That adds a nice finished topper to your cute little tree!

Hand tree

This is a great project to do with your kids! All you need is a blank Canvas and paint!

Ribbon trees

A great way to decorate outside! Hide those bare trees with ribbon!

Fabric Christmas trees

Supplies needed:

styrofoam cone

fabric of choice cut into 2″ wide strips

straight pins

First,  take a small piece of fabric and pin it over the top of your cone.

Next, fold your fabric strip in half, lengthwise, and pin it at top of cone.

Begin wrapping fabric, while keeping it folded, around cone as you make your way down.  Pin every once in a while to secure it.  (Tip: Pin near bottom of fabric so the next layer covers pin)

As you get to the bottom, pin under fabric which hangs over edge.

Continue wrapping and pinning to your heart’s content!
